Golfer

Golf has often been seen as an exclusive sport for the haves in society, however, the game has become much more accessible to many people over the last couple of decades.

Green fees are much cheaper than they used to be and equipment can be hired if you don’t own your own set.

Here is a look at some of the great benefits of taking up golf, if you are looking for a new activity to try.

Exercise

The most obvious benefit from playing golf is the exercise you will do when walking around the golf course. A standard course consists of 18 holes and without realising, you will clock up some mileage during your round.

Before you embark on your round, it is a good idea to have a stretch as you will be using a lot of muscles around your body. Activating them before you tee off that opening shot will reduce the chances of tweaking a muscle.

Given where a lot of golf courses are situated, walking the course is a great chance to breathe in some clean air. You can switch off from your phone and stresses of work for a few hours. The sound of nature can help you to relax and help foster a feeling of being at peace.

Satisfaction

It is worth pointing out that golf is a really tough sport to play. As we found at the US Open recently, which was won by Bryson DeChambeau, even the best players in the world can struggle when conditions are tough.

The satisfaction you get, though, when you hit a clean shot is immense, whether that is with the driver off the tee or holing a putt on the green.

You can learn a lot about the technique required in golf by watching the PGA Tour. All the leading players will be taking part in the US Masters in November where Dustin Johnson is the +900 favorite in the golf betting at Augusta. The world number one has such an impressive golf swing, so he is worth observing closely.

Like any sport, with more practice, you will find yourself improving on the course. If you get to a point where you feel confident in your game, you can even enter some amateur tournaments.

Social

Although golf can be played independently, it is also a great chance to meet new people or to play alongside friends. A round is normally played between 2-4 people.

As you are walking around the course, you can chat about each other’s shots or something completely different to golf. All that is needed is a mutual interest in the sport.

Many golf clubs organize events to get people together on and off the course. There is often the chance to have a bite to eat or drink afterwards in the clubhouse so you can make a day of it.

Even you have never picked up a golf club before, don’t let it put you off. You may find it’s a sport you fall in love with and that you are never away from a course in the near future.
