Textbooks cannot replace real world experience.
Textbooks cannot replace discovery.
Textbooks cannot replace masterly inactivity.
Textbooks cannot replace developing a curiosity that creates life long learners.
Textbooks cannot replace learning.
Textbooks cannot replace the natural learning through questions asked and observations made as you discover something new.
Textbooks cannot replace experiencing learning together.
Textbooks cannot replace a light in a child's eye as a lesson comes to life.
When we think about education our minds often wander to curriculum, textbooks, and workbooks. We have been conditioned that artificial learning in an artificial environment is education. Is there value in curriculum? Yes, I believe there is value in the right curriculum. However, experience and living are never to be replaced by a lesson plan. When school starts we hit the books, buckle down, and sharpen the pencils. Yet that is only scratching the surface of a well rounded education that encourages a sense of creativity and curiosity about the world. No need to give up on your textbook; just remember they are a guide or an outline and not the epitome of education.

I love it! As I embarked on Florida History this year without a textbook, I have found it liberating to say the least!
this is so true.....I also believe they learn more from hands on and actually visually seeing the real world...great post....
