Located in the historic FirstEnergy Powerhouse building in Cleveland, The Greater Cleveland Aquarium, is just one more reason to plan a trip to Cleveland. It is the only free standing aquarium in Ohio. Consider a trip for your homeschool co-op, event, or birthday party. If you live near Cleveland, you may want to consider a membership to take advantage of discounts and benefits. The aquarium is set by river just a short walk from the Nautica Queen. You can purchase a Nautica Queen/Aquarium package to make a full day out of it.
Pictured is the Nautica Queen, a favorite dinner cruise in Cleveland.
Our adventure began first thing in the morning for breakfast with this adorable seahorse. The aquarium employees were generous, kind, knowledgable, and very excited to share the aquarium experience with the bloggers at this fun event.
We even got to have an animal encounter with this tiny baby alligator. The kids loved it and learned so much.
After a fun breakfast we entered the aquarium. The building is amazing looking. It was precious to be lead around by a super cute kid with a super cute kid friendly map. Don't worry you will get one too when you visit. If your kids are like mine they will be excited to pick out as many fish as they can from Finding Nemo.
What is Alyssa looking at? She is looking into the Touch Pool.
The Touch Pool allows you to experience sea life first hand. We had the opportunity to touch starfish, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, and sting rays. The sting rays race around the pool and appear to come right up to the edge like little puppies trying to get attention.
Later that day, my three year old was playing with a crab toy and turned it upside down to show us where he mouth was located. She learned that at the Touch Pool when we were show the mouth on the horseshoe crab.
The Sea Tube gives you an underwater feeling. It was my favorite thing at the aquarium. It may also look a bit familiar to those of you who sat through Jaws 3. Remember that scene? Ah, maybe that's only me.
Okay Jaws fans, now this should get your attention. It's the shark tank! This was the attraction my kids looked forward to the most. Of course once face to face with the sharks my little one began to have second thoughts.
Sometimes it is the little things that grab your attention. We enjoyed seeing the seahorses. Did you know that while they are considered fish they are bad swimmers?
Almost as fun as watching the sting rays and seeing the alligators, is the gift shop. Why not take home a clown fish (or Nemo) of your own?
I want to thank The Greater Cleveland Aquarium for a fantastic time and awesome overnight stay at the Marriott so we could be there bright and early for our adventure.
"THANK YOU" ~ Alyssa and Kara
