The 2009 Schoolhouse Planner June 2010 Module:  Travel the World

Published by: The Old Schoolhouse

Age Range:  Perfect for multi-level students.  Contains a high school expansion.

As a member of The Old Schoolhouse's Homeschool Crew, I had the pleasure of reviewing a module for The Old Schoolhouse Planner: June 2010 Travel the World.  While this is a module to enhance the Planner, it is complete enough to stand on its own as a unit study.  The study begins with a through explanation of geography and maps.  It goes on to explore the continents, followed by activities, copywork, coloring pages, lap book pages, word searches, and a wonderful high school expansion.  This 56 page long, study is perfect for any learning style or homeschool method.  The study contains links to help further explain the concepts and allow your children to further explore the world.  The study is well written, easy to use, and requires little prep time for the teacher.  This is a study your whole family will enjoy.  Since it comes as a download you can easily print up enough activity sheets and coloring pages for all your children.

My children love geography so this unit study was a big hit.  My children are 12, 10, 5, and almost 2.  While my 12 and 10 year old learned the about geography, map work, and each continent, my 5 year old enjoyed the lap book and coloring pages.  My 2 year old also enjoyed coloring and impressing us with her pronunciation of all the continents.  The module includes enough activities for a wide age range that all my kids were engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent.

I used this module as a summer unit study, meaning it was the sole focus for a little over a week.  If you were to include this in your school year, you may spend more time or only use it a few times a week until you complete it.  I will, in fact, revisit the continents on a more in depth level when the school  year begins.  This was a wonderful introduction to our studies to come.  I will be using much of the information and all the links when we revisit this subject later in the year.

I was happy with how seamlessly this unit study worked with all my kids.  I also loved the versatility as it can easily be incorporated into your geography studies or used alone.  The activities were varied enough to suit different ages and learning styles.  I recommend this product to anyone studying geography or looking for a unit study that will profit a multiple age range of students.
